Hours worked

Rough estimate: your actual payslip may differ depending on your collective agreement and your situation.

How your pay for these hours is calculated

The hourly rate you are offered is usually gross: the amount before deductions. Two things are taken from it:

  • Employee social security: in 2026, 6.50% on a permanent contract (4.70% common contingencies, 1.55% unemployment, 0.10% vocational training and 0.15% MEI) and 6.55% on a fixed-term contract.
  • IRPF withholding: the percentage shown on your payslip. Your employer applies it to what it pays you.
Net ≈ hours × rate × (1 + premium) × (1 − social security % − IRPF %)

Example: 8 Sunday hours at €18 gross come to €144. With 6.50% social security and 15% IRPF, you keep about €113.04 net.

Good to know

  • The IRPF figure is approximate. Your employer calculates your withholding from what it expects you to earn over the year; earning more can raise the percentage slightly, and everything is settled in your annual tax return.
  • Check for a premium. Some collective agreements pay more for Sunday or holiday hours: enter it under “Premium” if that applies to you.
  • Ask whether the €18 includes bonus payments and holiday pay. In some cases the hourly price already includes them.
  • When are you paid? It depends on your employer’s payroll cut-off: usually the payroll for the month you work or the following one.

Percentages and conditions change every year and depend on the contract. This calculator does not replace your payslip or your collective agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Is €18 an hour gross or net?

Almost always gross: it is what the employer pays before deducting social security and IRPF. Ask to be sure.

Which IRPF percentage should I use?

The one on your latest payslip (usually called “% IRPF” or “withholding”). If you don’t have it to hand, try different values to see the range.

Is overtime taxed more?

Not because it is overtime, but it is added to your income for the year. Your employer applies your withholding percentage and any difference is settled in your annual tax return.

When will I be paid for these hours?

It depends on when your employer closes payroll. They are usually paid in the payroll of the month worked if reported in time, or the next one. Ask your employer.

Is my data stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and we don’t send or save anything.
