NIF, CIF and NIE Validator
Paste one or several tax IDs, one per line, and instantly see which ones have a correct control digit.
What this validator checks
It verifies that the control digit or letter matches the one produced by the official algorithm. It does not query any database: it can’t tell whether the person or company exists, only whether the ID is well formed.
- NIF (DNI): 8 digits and a letter. The letter comes from the remainder of dividing the number by 23 (
TRWAGMYFPDXBNJZSQVHLCKE). - NIE: starts with X, Y or Z (equivalent to 0, 1 and 2), seven digits and a control letter calculated like the DNI.
- CIF: a letter indicating the type of entity, seven digits and a control character that can be a number or a letter depending on the type.
When it helps
Before booking an invoice, to catch a NIF that was mistyped or misread from a receipt. Also to review a list of suppliers or customers before filing a return with the tax authority.
Frequently asked questions
Does it check that the NIF really exists?
No. It only checks that the format and the control digit are consistent. To confirm that a NIF is registered you need to check with the Spanish Tax Agency.
Can I validate many NIFs at once?
Yes. Paste a list with one ID per line and you will see the result for all of them together.
Does it accept hyphens or spaces?
Yes. Spaces, dots and hyphens are ignored before checking.
Is the list sent to a server?
No. The check runs in your browser and nothing is stored.
Got receipts and invoices to turn into Excel?
Apunt reads them in your browser and prepares one line per document. 20 free readings, no sign-up.
