Why a CSV opens badly in Excel

In Spain, Excel expects the semicolon as a separator and the comma as the decimal mark. If the CSV comes from another program using commas as separators, or with a different encoding, everything ends up in one column or with broken accents.

This converter detects the separator, reads the file as UTF-8 or Windows-1252 and produces a real .xlsx, with each value in its own cell. Amounts with a decimal comma (for example 1.234,56) are turned into numbers, so you can sum them straight away.

How to use it

  1. Load the file or paste its content.
  2. Check the preview and adjust the separator if needed.
  3. Download the Excel file.

Everything happens in your browser: the file is not uploaded to any server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a semicolon-separated CSV to Excel?

Load or paste it here. The separator is detected automatically and the result is an .xlsx file with each column in place.

Do numbers with a decimal comma work?

Yes. With “Recognise numbers” on, 1.234,56 is saved as the number 1234.56 rather than as text.

What if accents come out broken?

The converter tries UTF-8 and, if it detects wrong characters, reads the file as Windows-1252, the usual encoding of older business software.

Is my file uploaded?

No. It is converted in your browser and does not leave your computer.
